StoryMaker Workshops

This term we will be using our Sunday gatherings (plus a couple of midweek evenings) to workshop some thoughts together as a community of goodness. If you like to fly by the seat of our pants and wing it, you can probably check out of this post now!

If however you appreciate the heads-up and would like to give some consideration to the topics ahead of time to enable deeper thought and creativity, then boy-oh-boy are you in the right place!

SPACES AND MEMS

Sunday 3rd & 10th May

These sessions will look at the following things:

  • What are your general reflections on the StoryMaker vision outline? What questions are you left with? What feels exciting, daunting or unclear? Where can you begin to imagine your own contribution?
  • What feelings, emotions and memories would we like to create in the lives of people who come to St Marks events in the future? What would we like them to experience at the event and tell their friends about afterwards?
  • What makes a great (or terrible) gathering space? If we were to be looking to rent new/different venues, what kinds of things should we be looking for? What physical venue attributes contribute to, or detract from, the main purpose of our gathering?

PARABLES

Wednesday 13th May & Tuesday 23rd June

One of the video series we are going to film revolves around the parables of Jesus. We are going to create some beautiful, narrative driven stories which communicate the life-giving and captivating truths of the simple stories Jesus told.

In order not to just retell the stories in the same old way, we are going to workshop ideas together and dig deep & wide. The first session (May) will be a discussion on the parables, reading some together and beginning to investigate some of the wider themes.

Then there is 6 weeks to read, listen, dream, learn and think...coming back together in June with all that we have discovered to focus on a couple of parables and imagine how we can tell them brilliantly.

SONGS

Sunday 31st May & 7th June

These sessions will consider the songs we sing.

What songs have been meaningful or helpful to you in expressing your faith or giving words to what you want to say?

What things would we like to express as a community? What is the common language of our village and what are the rhythms which are important to us? (ie...what is in our calendar / pattern of living which is important?)

What makes the experience of communal singing good and helpful for you? What makes the experience of communal singing embarrassing or difficult for you?

It may well be that some simple songs for our community find their origin in these workshops.

BIG FAMILY FUN

Sunday 21st & 28th June

Two Sundays to begin thinking about the creation of fantastic, fun, inspiring, faith-filled gatherings for the whole family.

We can think through things like, what we want to communicate, where we could do it best, what are the key ingredients, how to best invite people.

Also, we can create some fun features, characters, games and format points. Got a fun game which might work well?...bring it along! Got an idea for a character?...we are all ears!
