Prayer: the secret to a wonderful and wonder-filled life of discipleship to Jesus…also the most difficult, maddening and sometimes awkward of the Christian life! This term we are using a book to help us grow in our understanding and experience of prayer. Each week we will discuss a chapter in our gatherings, helping to guide each other and encourage each other through the hurts and joys.
None of us ever feels very “good” at it, so we all start from a similar place. Grab your copy and join in the discussions either on a Sunday or at a book-club gathering.
DATES
what we will be discussing together, and when
Chapter 1 – Holy Ground – 26th Fed
Chapter 2 – Be Still & Know – 5th March
Chapter 3 – Our Father – 12th March
Chapter 4 – Search me & Know me – 19th March
Chapter 5 – On Earth as it is in Heaven – 26th March
Thanks for asking! There are a few ways you could be involved in helping to lead this conversation. If any of these ideas float your boat, click here to volunteer.
LEAD A SUNDAY DISCUSSION – Get ahead one week and come prepared to give a 5 min overview of that week’s chapter (to get everyone up to speed if they have not been able to read it) and then lead the discussion time.
WRITE A CHAPTER SUMMARY – So that youth, non-readers and time-poor bluffers can access the main points of each chapter, maybe you could write a one-page summary of the main points of the chapter? This would involve reading ahead so that it can be uploaded in good time.
LEAD A BOOK CLUB GATHERING – You could lead a discussion at the centrally organised book club OR start your own group to chat through what we are learning together.
TEACH OUR KIDS ABOUT PRAYER – Obviously we want our children to begin learning about prayer, and equally obviously we cant expect them to read a chapter of this grown-up’s book! Could you prepare a session for our Primary School or Nursery crew about praying, some Jesus stories about prayer or some craft which helps them try it out?
HOST A SUNDAY GATHERING – Having multiple (smaller) groups will help conversation flow.
